Vegetarian food in Buddhism

イメージ
Hello, everyone. Today, I will introduce Vegetarian food in Buddhism. It is called '精進料理' in Japan, and it is eaten mainly in temples. As you can know from its English name, such cuisine doesn't include any meal. But also, it is different from ordinal vegetarian food in terms of origin. I will explain the origin and idea in following paragraphs.       There are three reasons why people in temples eat Vegetarian food. The first reason is that Buddhists think that we human should not kill every animals if we do not have to do so. In Buddhism, killing animals for eating is useless. The second reason is that Buddhists think that we should not have earthly desires (煩悩 in Japanese). They believe that if we take luxurious meal, we will have earthly desires and want to eat more luxurious cuisine than what we ate. The third reason is that Buddhists believe that we can enlightenment and be Buddha by eating simple meal.      However, at the origin of vegetarian food in Buddhism,

How to Sleep Well

Hello, everyone! Today, I'll introduce about quality of sleep. Do you sleep well these days? I think that you sometimes cannot even though you know it is important to sleep because of some problems. However, you can get the same effects any time as 7 hour's sleep if you improve your quality of sleep. On the contrary, if you are sleep despite of your long time sleep, you maybe cannot recover from physical and mental tiredness.     Thus, I will explain how to improve our quality of sleep in following sentences. There are 6 significant points.     First, we have to know our own good sleeping time. Have you ever heard "REM Sleep" and "Non-REM Sleep"? If we can wake up during REM Sleep, we can get up comfortably. Also, REM Sleep appears every 90 minutes, so it is good to decide our sleeping time to 4.5 hours, 6 hours or 7.5 hours.      Second, we should not eat anything from 3 hours before we sleep. This is because if we take food, the food digest at our sto

My impression to Haruki Murakami

Hello, everyone. Today, I'll introduce a famous writer in Japan.      His name is Haruki Murakami. Have you ever heard his name? He is one of the top writers in Japan and won a lot of prizes in novel's field both in Japan and other countries, so I think that some of you have known him. I am going to write my impression to his novels in following passages.     First of all, the most unnormal thing in his novels is that characters have some problems of his/her humanity or how to live. They have some secret, painful past, or current problems which is difficult to solve. For example, a woman was regarded as an ordinal parson, but she finally committed suicide because she became depression. Also, one heroin is a killer, and a hero is a ghostwriter in his novel. I was surprised at his representation when he wrote inside of such people. He does not experience murder, but he can write criminal's mind.      Second, I think that there are a lot of physical relationship between men a

The Today's Podcast, "The Things a Guy Will Do for a Girl"

Today, I listened to a podcast called "The Things a Guy Will Do for a girl." It has two parts; Conversation by Mr. Lauer and a woman section and Dialog section. They talked about what differences between Japanese and American dating at the conversation part, and two people talk about what Suzuki-san is going to do Golden week at the Dialog part.      It is interesting that American people do not love confessions, so in terms of how to start lover's relationship, Japanese are more direct than American. It is often said that Japan has indirect culture compare to America in a lot of situations. I'm interested in why there is such a difference.      In Dialog part, I learned ten new words; ridiculous, a chain smoker, to get winded, a fitness freak, to act like a desperate loser, to scale, a tricycle, to be madly in love with, that would be the one!, and what's THAT supposed to mean? I will check these meanings in following passages.     ridiculous: It was used wh

Ushida Mountain Hiking

イメージ
Hello, everyone.  Today, I'm going to talk about climbing mountain. Have you ever been to hiking? You may think that it is simple activity to climb mountains, but the simple activity is a little hard to complete and very fun. On this weekend, I participated in Gunsu Hiking Group which regularly hold mountaineering, and I climbed three mountains; Hutagami Mountain, Onaga Mountain and Ushida Mountain. The range of generation in the group is very large, maybe from 5 years old to over 70 years old, so I could experience precious communication with group members. I think that if I join a group which includes only young people, I would have not undergone such communication. To be honest, I was very nervous because I haven't took part in such a group and I feel that I am poor at communication. However, all participants were very kind and friendly, so I could talk about a lot of topics with them comfortably.  The most surprising thing was that almost all Japanese participants could sp

About the Mars

イメージ
Hello, everyone.       Did you look up the sky at October 6th? Because a lot of media told the Mars' approaching to the earth, some of you maybe know it. About 11 o'clock at the day, the Mars was making its closest approach to the earth for the first time in 2 years and 2 months. At that time, the distance between the Mars and our planet was approximately 62 million kilometers ; it is said that such closest approach will never be observed until 2033, 13years later .     I looked up the sky and could see the Mars by naked eye ! However, there are many people in Japan who had been looking forward to seeing the Mars clearly, so some of them bought astronomical telescopes to observe it. At TV interview, a shopkeeper in Tokyo said that more people bought telescopes than usual. Because o f COVID-19 virus, people could not go to the observatory where you can see the sky well, so many people probably enjoy to see the sky at home.      This is a picture which an acrobat took and
