Ushida Mountain Hiking

 Hello, everyone. 

Today, I'm going to talk about climbing mountain. Have you ever been to hiking? You may think that it is simple activity to climb mountains, but the simple activity is a little hard to complete and very fun.

On this weekend, I participated in Gunsu Hiking Group which regularly hold mountaineering, and I climbed three mountains; Hutagami Mountain, Onaga Mountain and Ushida Mountain. The range of generation in the group is very large, maybe from 5 years old to over 70 years old, so I could experience precious communication with group members. I think that if I join a group which includes only young people, I would have not undergone such communication. To be honest, I was very nervous because I haven't took part in such a group and I feel that I am poor at communication. However, all participants were very kind and friendly, so I could talk about a lot of topics with them comfortably. 

The most surprising thing was that almost all Japanese participants could speak English fluently! I was really surprised because I saw that people living in Japan use English naturally for the first time in my whole life. Also, I tried to talk with foreign students from India in English, sometimes I could not remember English words! But I was able to continue talking, so I feel that it is important that trying to tell what I think in my own words.

Besides, the scenery from the top of the mountains was very beautiful! We could see a large part of Hiroshima city and Miya island. I took some pictures, and this is one of them; it was taken in the top of Ushida Mountain. 

When I found that I was on the place which are higher than skyscrapers in Hiroshima city, I felt a sense of achievement. 

Finally, we went to Hudouin temple, one of the Japanese national treasures. This is a picture taken there. I could feel its history. According to the explanation board, it is a bombed building. It is wonderful for us to see such temple.

      Hello.
      I have never hiked before, but I could understand how fun it is.
      There are a lot of mountains in Hiroshima Prefecture, so try to complete all the mountains in Hiroshima!

Could humans live in underwater city?

     Hello, everyone! Today, I'll introduce a podcast which I watched. The title is 'Could humans live in underwater city?'     In this podcast, whether we human try to live in the sea and what problems are of living in underwater are explained. First of all, there is a project to live under the sea, and Japanese team is leading it. One of the member of the project team said that it is our purpose to solve environmental problems like lack of natural resources. At seabed, there are a lot of resources, for example, oil and shale gas. He insist that if we can use the resources, we will not have to suffer from shortage of it on the ground.      However, there is mainly one big physiological problems when we live in underwater city. First problem is that we have to worry about the bends, a disease caused by the differences of atmospheric pressure between on the ground and under the sea. Melting ice sheet: Is it too late?

     Today, I listened to "Melting ice sheet: Is it too late?" In this pod cast, the man and the woman talked about melting ice sheet of Green land and the Arctic and whether it's too late for human beings to strive to stop global warming.       Michalea King, a glaciologist, explained that usually, the amount of melting ice sheet and the amount of newly frozen ice was in balance, so we do not have to worry about melting ice sheet. In other words, "the amount of ice being drained from the glaciers was equal to what we are gaining on the surface via snow every year."(This is a citation from her words.)       However, recently, the glaciers have been melting faster than ever, and the balance was destroyed. She said that the situation which we are now facing is the tipping point. In fact, 500 gigatons of ice are now melting into the ocean every year, and the amount of newly frozen ice is less than that.
